Goa govt agrees in principle to relocate Shivaji statue

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Aug 20: The Goa government has informed the High Court that it is, in principle, agreeable to relocating the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj allegedly installed unlawfully on Mormugao Port Authority property at Sada.

The government told the court that the process of identifying suitable government land for relocating the statue is currently underway. Two to three potential sites have been identified, but no final decision has been taken so far.

The High Court has granted the Goa government additional time to finalise an appropriate site and submit the details before the court.

The matter has been adjourned to August 25, when the court is expected to hear the issue again and consider the government's proposed relocation plan.

The statue's installation on Mormugao Port Authority land had led to legal proceedings, with the authorities seeking clarity on its status and location. The government is now examining alternative government land to facilitate its relocation.
