Woman dies after childbirth in Rajasthan; family alleges medical negligence at Health Centre

Jaipur, Jul 17: A 23-year-old woman died after her health deteriorated following childbirth at a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rajasthan's Banswara district, with her family alleging that doctors and nursing staff failed to provide timely medical care despite repeated requests for assistance.

The incident took place at the Gangadtalai Community Health Centre in the Anandpuri police station area, where Sarla, a resident of Tejpura village, had been admitted on Thursday evening after experiencing labour pains.

According to her family, Sarla delivered her first child around midnight. However, a few hours later, her blood pressure reportedly dropped significantly and her condition began to worsen.

Her brother-in-law, Vinesh Kumar Maida, alleged that he repeatedly approached the nursing staff for help, but they were asleep and did not respond despite several attempts to alert them. The family claimed that the delay in medical attention left Sarla without the urgent treatment she required during the critical hours after delivery.

As her condition continued to deteriorate, she was referred to MG Hospital in Banswara only around 6 a.m., by which time, according to her relatives, she had become critically ill. They alleged that an earlier referral or immediate medical intervention could have prevented the tragedy.

Sarla was being transported to the district hospital by ambulance when she reportedly died on the way. Doctors at MG Hospital examined her upon arrival and declared her dead.

Her father-in-law, Prabhu, and brother-in-law, Dinesh Kumar Maida, have demanded strict action against the doctors and nursing personnel posted at the health centre, accusing them of serious negligence in handling the emergency.

The family has also called for a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether lapses in medical care contributed to the woman's death.

The state health department has not yet issued an official statement on the allegations, and further investigation into the matter is awaited.
