Udupi, Jul 7: Large and dangerous potholes have developed in the middle of the road opposite the Udupi City Municipal Council's commercial complex on the stretch connecting Syndicate Circle on the national highway to DC Office Road, posing a serious threat to motorists.
The road is one of the busiest routes in the city and is used daily by government employees, students, officials, elected representatives, and the general public travelling to various government offices. Several complaints have been received about two-wheeler riders losing control and falling, particularly at night, when the potholes are difficult to notice.

Speaking to Daijiworld, social worker Nityananda Olakadu said, "Several major roads in Udupi are in a deplorable condition, particularly the road leading to the deputy commissioner's (DC) office. Vehicles can manage to travel from Syndicate Circle to the DC office, but while returning, motorists are forced to navigate through large potholes. These are not minor potholes—there are three to four massive craters filled with rainwater, making it extremely difficult and dangerous for commuters."
He further said, "Manipal is one of the busiest areas in the district, with more than a thousand vehicles using this stretch every day. Ironically, these potholes are located right in front of the Udupi Municipal Commercial Building, and government officials themselves regularly travel on this road. If even the DC's office does not take responsibility for repairing such an important road, we will be compelled to stage a unique protest at the spot."
Despite senior officials and public representatives travelling on the same road every day, the issue remains unattended, leading to growing public dissatisfaction over the lack of timely repairs.
