Udupi, Jul 7: As part of a special safety drive, police conducted a comprehensive inspection of school vehicles to ensure compliance with mandatory safety regulations and safeguard schoolchildren.
During the inspection, officials verified whether school buses were adhering to all prescribed safety norms and checked whether any vehicles were carrying students beyond their permitted seating capacity. They also thoroughly examined essential documents, including the drivers' driving licences (DL), vehicle fitness certificates (FC), insurance papers, RTO permits, and other mandatory records.

The intensified inspection follows the recent accident involving a private school bus in Manipal. The subsequent investigation revealed that the bus was being driven by its conductor, who did not possess a valid driving licence, and this was identified as a major factor contributing to the accident.
In the wake of the incident, police have stepped up inspections of school vehicles across the district, giving top priority to the safety of schoolchildren.
Police have warned that strict action will be taken against school vehicles found violating safety regulations. They have also directed school managements and vehicle owners to ensure full compliance with all mandatory rules and safety standards to prevent such incidents in the future.
