Mangaluru, Jun 23: A potentially serious mishap was averted near Yenepoya Hospital on Tuesday when a passenger bus mounted a road divider after its driver reportedly suffered a sudden drop in blood pressure and lost control of the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Janardhana, fell critically ill while driving the 'Gopalakrishna' bus from Mangaluru towards Mudipu.

Unable to maintain control due to the sudden medical emergency, Janardhana reportedly steered the moving vehicle onto the divider. The unexpected incident triggered panic among the passengers, but a major disaster was avoided as the bus came to a safe halt without causing any injuries to those on board.

Realising the seriousness of the driver's condition, the bus conductor and passengers acted swiftly, arranging for an ambulance to shift Janardhana to Yenepoya Hospital. He was admitted for immediate medical treatment and is reported to be in a serious condition.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the mishap was entirely triggered by the driver's sudden health crisis rather than any mechanical failure.

Further updates regarding his health condition are awaited.

Luckily the reputed hospital was close to the incidence spot .No doubt .of any intoxication or mechanical failure. The R.T.O. Rules must insist on genuine / authentic medical Report of Trainee drivers, before issuing driving permit/ badges. It is better/ safer for laymen who opt to take public transport..

This type of incidents had hardly happened during forgone days. Of late we have many bad incidents of drivers (mostly bus) suffering massive heart/cardiac attacks and most of such incident's the drivers, in spite of their helpless life-threatening condition have saved passengers from major calamity. Gods' divine mercy🙏👍

While wishing the driver a very speedy recovery, so many such incidents concerning private bus drivers, suddenly taking ill, in recent times, suggests that there is a pattern to these incidents, indicating that the drivers are either not fit, or physically and mentally stressed out due to poor working conditions (long work hours/lack of sleep) and/or chronic health issues, consumption of alcohol and gutka too needs to be taken into account!! Investigation & Remedial action, regarding frequent such incidents occurring with these pvt bus drivers, before a big mishap occurs!!
