Udupi, May 27: Amid continuous rainfall in the district, CMC commissioner Mahantesh Hangargi said that Udupi city currently has sufficient drinking water reserves, with adequate backup facilities in place, and there is no shortage situation at present. Speaking to Daijiworld about monsoon preparedness, he said the City Municipal Council has already alerted all departments to remain prepared for any kind of emergency during heavy rain and thunderstorm conditions.

He stated, “Due to sudden strong winds, complaints regarding fallen trees were received from the Parkala and Kinnimulki areas. Immediately after receiving the information, our teams were sent to the spots and the fallen trees were cleared without delay. Despite continuous rainfall, no major incidents of drainage overflow or house damage have been reported so far within the city limits.”

The commissioner further said, “Instructions have been given to officials for regular monitoring during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. We have already cleaned most of the drainage systems across the city, and cleaning work is continuing in the remaining open drains as well.”

On the issue of possible water rationing, the commissioner said that he, along with ministers, visited the Baje Dam and, based on the present water level, there is no water scarcity and no possibility of water rationing.
