Mangaluru, May 27: Dakshina Kannada (DK) deputy commissioner (DC) Darshan H V has directed officials to take strict measures to prevent illegal slaughter of camels and cattle, unauthorized transportation of animals and illegal meat sales ahead of the Bakrid festival.
He was speaking while chairing a district-level committee meeting held at the Mangaluru City Corporation office hall regarding measures to prevent illegal slaughter and transportation of cattle during the festival.

The DC said that permission from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services is mandatory for transporting cattle. He instructed officials to closely monitor vehicles transporting animals at all check-posts to prevent illegal transportation.
He further stated that while transporting cattle, it is compulsory to carry official documents, including transport permits, details of the cattle owner, details of the buyer, vehicle registration documents and driver details. He directed authorities to ensure strict verification of these documents.
The DC also instructed officials to seize buildings as per rules if illegal animal slaughter is found taking place in any premises.
He said that a district committee has already been constituted to prevent illegal transportation and slaughter of cattle and directed committee members to take appropriate action. He also stressed the need for coordination among the concerned departments.
Chief veterinary officer Dr Ashok K R, ASP Anil Kumar and others were present at the meeting.
