Udupi, May 23: A portion of the road near RSB Circle in Manipal, allegedly dug up for certain works, has become a major safety hazard for motorists and commuters.
According to local residents, the road was excavated without proper cautionary measures or warning signs being placed at the site. It is learnt that even after completion of the work, the road was not restored properly, creating danger for vehicles passing through the stretch.

Residents further alleged that the area lacks proper street lighting, making the dug-up portion almost invisible during night hours and increasing the risk of accidents.
As a result, several motorists travelling at speed reportedly lost control of their vehicles after suddenly encountering the dug-up portion of the road. Sources said a few riders sustained serious injuries in separate incidents after falling from their vehicles and are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals.
Concerned over the growing risk to public safety, local residents later filled the deep pit temporarily and placed barricades near the damaged stretch to alert commuters and prevent further mishaps.
Residents have urged the concerned authorities to immediately inspect the site, identify those responsible for the digging work, and take necessary action to ensure public safety and proper restoration of the road.
