Manchester City beat Brentford 3-0 to stay in Premier League title hunt

London, May 10: Manchester City boosted their Premier League title hopes with an impressive 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium, cutting the gap to league leaders Arsenal to just two points.

After being held to a dramatic 3-3 draw by Everton earlier in the week, Pep Guardiola’s side delivered a composed and attacking performance, particularly in the second half, to keep pressure firmly on Arsenal ahead of their clash against West Ham United.

City dominated possession from the opening minutes and created several chances before eventually breaking through. Jeremy Doku emerged as one of the standout performers and nearly opened the scoring inside the first two minutes, forcing Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher into a smart low save. Moments later, Doku delivered a dangerous cross that Erling Haaland headed wide.

Haaland remained a constant threat throughout the first half. The Norwegian striker saw another header comfortably stopped by Kelleher, while defender Kristoffer Ajer produced a crucial block to deny him from close range.

The breakthrough finally arrived around the hour mark when Doku cut inside from the flank and curled a brilliant strike into the far corner of the net. The goal closely resembled the dramatic equaliser he scored against Everton earlier in the week.

Manchester City gained greater control of the match after Haaland doubled the lead with 15 minutes remaining, managing to force the ball home from close range after a crowded scramble inside the penalty area.

Substitute Omar Marmoush added the third goal late in the game to complete a convincing win for the defending champions.

Despite the final scoreline, Brentford did manage to test City’s defence on several occasions. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced into action after misjudging a long throw from Michael Kayode, with City defenders eventually clearing the danger off the line.

The Italian goalkeeper also made important saves to deny Mathias Jensen from a free-kick and later stopped Igor Thiago with a sharp near-post intervention in the second half.

City’s defence, however, remained resilient throughout the contest and secured a valuable clean sheet as Guardiola’s side continued their pursuit of another Premier League crown.

The result keeps Manchester City firmly in contention for the title, while Brentford remain in eighth place in the league standings.
