Madrid, May 2: World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will take on Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s final of the Madrid Open after both players secured convincing semi-final victories.

Sinner delivered a commanding performance to defeat Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4 in just 85 minutes. The Italian controlled the match from the outset, striking 17 winners and consistently pushing his opponent around the court. Reflecting on his performance, Sinner said he focused on aggressive play and felt particularly strong on returns, describing it as “a very good day” on court.

The victory sends Sinner into his fifth consecutive Masters 1000 final, keeping alive his bid to become the first player to win five straight titles at this level.

In the other semi-final, Zverev overcame Belgium’s Alexander Blockx 6-2, 7-5. Blockx had been the surprise package of the tournament, having eliminated four seeded players en route to the last four. However, Zverev proved too strong, cruising through the opening set and sealing the match with a crucial break late in the second.

Meanwhile, the women’s final on Saturday will see Mirra Andreeva face Marta Kostyuk.

Sinner’s run in Madrid has also marked a historic milestone. At just 24, he has now reached the final of all nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, becoming the youngest player to achieve the feat. In doing so, he joins an elite group that includes Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer—surpassing them all as the youngest to complete the set.
