Bengaluru, Apr 21: In a shocking case of deception and exploitation, a Bengaluru-based businessman has been arrested for allegedly targeting nearly 50 women officers, including those from Customs and GST departments, by luring them into relationships on the promise of love and marriage and later blackmailing them.
The accused, identified as M Kripalani, a resident of Indiranagar, runs an electronics business and is involved in the import of goods. He was arrested by Pulakeshinagar police in connection with a blackmail case filed by a woman customs officer.

Investigators said Kripalani initially refused to cooperate during questioning. However, crucial technical evidence, including data retrieved from his mobile phone and other digital sources, revealed that several women had allegedly fallen prey to his scheme.
According to police, he would approach women officers under the guise of work, gradually gain their confidence, and invite them out for meals. These interactions would then develop into close personal relationships, during which he allegedly promised marriage to establish physical intimacy.
He is accused of subsequently exploiting the victims by threatening to release their private photos or videos if they did not meet his demands. Officials said his primary targets were women officers working in GST and customs departments, with around 50 victims suspected so far.
In a dramatic turn during the investigation, Kripalani allegedly assaulted police personnel on two occasions while being taken for medical examination. At Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, he reportedly created a disturbance, snatched a mobile phone from an officer, and attacked police staff. A similar incident was reported at Victoria Hospital, where he again allegedly assaulted personnel.
Following these incidents, two separate FIRs were registered against him at Commercial Street and V V Puram police stations for assaulting public servants and obstructing them in the discharge of their duties.
The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
