Mangaluru: Hall owners, organisers booked for causing wedding traffic chaos on NH-169

Mangaluru, Apr 12: Mangaluru City police have booked the owners of Royal Palace and Ondela Hall, along with event organisers, for allegedly causing traffic disruption and endangering public safety at Ganjimath in Mangaluru taluk.

According to a press release issued by the police on April 12, the incident took place between 12 noon and 2 pm near Muchoor Cross, when the halls were rented out for a wedding function without ensuring adequate parking arrangements for vehicles.

As a result, vehicles belonging to guests were parked along National Highway 169, triggering traffic congestion and obstructing the free flow of vehicles.

Police stated that the situation caused inconvenience to the public and posed potential danger to commuters.

Acting on the violation, Bajpe police registered a suo motu case (Crime No. 73/2026) against the hall owners and organisers under Sections 126(2), 285 and 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 122 of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act.

Police said the accused had “illegally obstructed smooth vehicular movement,” leading to a traffic jam on the busy highway.

Further investigation is under way.

People seem to be overlooking the core issue here. The traffic congestion was primarily caused by the ongoing road construction near Yedapadav. This situation was further aggravated by individuals parking their vehicles irresponsibly, wherever they found space. Rather than placing the blame on hall owners, the focus should be on enforcing proper parking regulations. Vehicles that were parked incorrectly should be identified and fined accordingly. To put it into perspective, if a large sale at Dmart attracts heavy crowds and people choose to park recklessly on the roads, it wouldn’t be fair to penalize Dmart for that. The responsibility lies with those who apply parking rules. The same logic applies in this situation.

I think even the vehicle owners who have parked erratically should be booked. If one dont have a parking space available, dont park anywhere and everywhere. One doesnt have to the right to park . anywhere and everywhere. This illegal freedom of parking anywhere knowing it will cause trouble to others is a violation.

Blame the city corporation/town planning department for approving the construction of the hall and granting permission without proper provision to park the vehicle to maintain smooth traffic flow. Still not too late. Things can be rectified when there a wiil by the authorities.

Marriage halls should not be permitted to be built unless they provide adequate parking space for guests.
