Kundapur, Apr 10: The founders’ day of the prestigious IMJ Educational Institutions (I M Jayarama Shetty) was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Friday at its campus in Moodlakatte.
The institution was originally established in 2004 as the Moodlakatte Institute of Technology Kundapura (MITK), inspired by the vision of its founder and former MP, I M Jayarama Shetty.
With the objective of providing quality technical education to students in rural areas, his vision has since grown into the IMJ group of institutions, forming a strong academic foundation for thousands of students.




Speaking as the chief guest, former minister and former chairman of the Backward Classes Commission, K Jayaprakash Hegde, stated that building an institution is not an easy task. He lauded Jayarama Shetty’s efforts in transforming the educational landscape of the region by establishing a reputed institution in a rural setting.
He also appreciated the institution’s expansion beyond engineering into disciplines such as science, commerce, and nursing. He encouraged students to draw inspiration from Jayarama Shetty’s life, strive for success, and prioritise environmental conservation and social responsibility.
Guest of honour R Upendra Shetty, founder-chairman of Universal Group of Institutions, Bengaluru, praised the institution’s growth and development. Reflecting on Jayarama Shetty’s journey, he highlighted how he emerged as a visionary leader and urged students to make optimal use of the available facilities and contribute positively to society.
Presiding over the function, IMJ Institutions chairman Siddharth J Shetty expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the institution’s growth and appealed for continued support in fulfilling his father’s vision.
Trustees including Ram Rathan J Shetty and Sudhakar Shetty were present on the occasion. Academic director Dr S N Bhat, along with deans, principals, vice-principals, heads of departments, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students, witnessed the historic event.
A documentary highlighting the journey of IMJ Institutions from its inception in 2004 to its present stature was also screened.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Pratibha Patel, Principal of IMJ ISC Dr J Prakash, head of the IS Department, and Prof Roopashree, vice-principal of the Nursing College, introduced the guests.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof Jennifer Menezes, principal of the Nursing College.
