New Delhi, Apr 7: In a significant development for India’s aviation sector, Campbell Wilson has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air India, sources confirmed on Tuesday.

Wilson, who took charge in 2022 on a five-year contract, was originally set to continue in the role until July 2027. However, his unexpected resignation has raised questions within industry circles, with the airline yet to issue an official statement on the reasons behind the move or its succession plan.

A seasoned aviation professional with over 30 years of experience, Wilson played a key role in steering Air India during a crucial phase of restructuring and expansion under its new ownership. His leadership came at a time when the airline was undergoing major transformation efforts aimed at regaining its global standing.

Prior to joining Air India, Wilson served as CEO of Scoot, the budget arm of Singapore Airlines. He had earlier been the founding CEO of Scoot and later held the position of Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing at Singapore Airlines, overseeing global commercial operations.

Wilson began his career with Singapore Airlines in 1996 as a management trainee in New Zealand and went on to hold key assignments across multiple international markets including Canada, Hong Kong, and Japan.

He holds a Master of Commerce (First Class Honours) in Business Administration from the University of Canterbury.

With his departure, attention now shifts to who will take over the reins at Air India at a time when the airline continues to focus on fleet expansion, service upgrades, and strengthening its international footprint.
