Katapady overpass nears milestone as one carriageway to open from April 10

Udupi, Apr 6: MP Kota Srinivas Poojary announced that one carriageway of the Katapady highway will be opened to vehicular traffic from April 10, a move expected to ease congestion at the busy junction.

On April 6, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, along with MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, visited the construction site to review the progress of the project. During their visit, the leaders assessed the ongoing work and held discussions with officials supervising the construction.

The construction of the overpass at Katapady Junction is progressing at a brisk pace. Tar work on one side of the highway is currently under way and is expected to be completed shortly, after which it will be opened to traffic.

Once this stretch becomes operational, vehicles travelling from Udupi towards Mangaluru will be diverted onto the highway, while those heading towards Udupi will be routed through the service road.

Following the opening of one side of the highway, excavation and construction work on the other side will commence as part of the next phase of the project.

During the visit, the leaders reviewed the status of the construction and interacted with officials overseeing the work.

Kapu Mandal BJP president Jitendra Shetty, former Udupi Zilla Panchayat member Shilpa G Suvarna, former Katapadi Grama Panchayat members Srinivas Kini, Subhash Ballal, Pavitra Shetty, former Kota Grama Panchayat members Yogish, Harshit, Ratnakar, former Kurkalu Grama Panchayat member Praveen Poojary, Kaup Mandal BJP general secretary Gopalakrishna Rao, Moodabetu Mahashakti Kendra member Nitin, along with officials from the National Highways Authority of India and local residents, were present on the occasion.
