Mangaluru: Milagres College organises ‘Nutrisynergy’ national-level workshop

Mangaluru, Feb 24: A one-day national-level workshop titled ‘Nutrisynergy’ was organised by the department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics at Milagres College on February 17.

With the objective of highlighting the synergy between nutrition and health, the programme was inaugurated in a unique manner as dignitaries prepared a healthy salad by mixing fresh grains and vegetables.

Inaugurating the workshop, the principal of the college, Dr Alwin Serrao, stated that essential nutrients play a vital role in our daily lives and that educating people about food and nutrition is a key factor in preventing many diseases.

Presiding over the function, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, emphasised the importance of understanding health in the context of modern lifestyles.

In the first technical session, Dr Srinivas Kakkilaya, MD consultant physician provided insights into the impact of gut health and metabolism on a person’s overall physical and mental well-being.

In the second session, Shikha A S, quality control manager at Navadurga Food Products, explained career opportunities available to students in the field of food safety and industrial quality control, along with the skills required.

During the third session, Aruna Mallya, senior dietitian at Manipal Hospital, elaborated on how dietary principles are practically implemented in hospital settings.

At the valedictory ceremony, certificates were distributed to a total of 170 students and five faculty members from various colleges who participated in the workshop.

The programme was compered by Clevan Cardoza and Anusha Anjaneya. Lecturer B Pratibha D’Souza delivered the welcome address, while the workshop coordinator S Shaila Moras proposed the vote of thanks. Lecturer Divyashree was also present on the occasion.
