Mangaluru: Mount Carmel primary students celebrate linguistic heritage

Mangaluru, Feb 24: The primary students of Mount Carmel Central School, celebrated the linguistic heritage with great cultural pride on International Mother Language Day. The programme was creatively hosted by the students of grade II A and II B on February 21.

The celebration commenced with a solemn prayer, followed by a graceful welcome dance. The students then delivered the warm welcome address in different mother languages, beautifully reflecting India’s rich linguistic heritage, and introduced the chief guest, Dr Purushothama Chippar, co-founder and managing director of Cognate Industrial Automation, Mangaluru. The students then eloquently highlighted the significance of the day, emphasizing the importance of respecting, preserving, and promoting one’s mother tongue, as it reflects the identity, culture, and heritage. The young Carmelites confidently expressed themselves in various languages, including English, Hindi, Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, and Malayalam, beautifully showcasing the rich linguistic diversity of our nation.

The programme was further enriched with vibrant dance performances in Kannada, Tulu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Bengali. A lively Konkani group action song added joy and enthusiasm to the celebration.

In his inspiring address, the chief guest described the mother tongue as ‘the language of our heart.’ He emphasized that one’s mother language forms the foundation of culture and tradition and plays a vital role in shaping values and identity.

The administrator, Sr Carissima, in her address, encouraged the students to take pride in speaking their mother tongue and to preserve and promote it for future generations.

The programme was confidently anchored by Dhrithi, Ragner, Diya, Noah, and Arav. The welcome address was delivered by Eion, Delvin, Lenora, Sheethal, Janvi, Adam, Ethan, Dhyan, and Shouya, while Ananya, Alina, Sukruthi, Janvi, and Gavya proposed the vote of thanks.

The celebration concluded with a renewed pledge to cherish, preserve, and proudly promote one’s mother language for generations to come.
