Mangaluru, Jan 31: Carmel School, CBSE Kotekar, organized two informative and enriching sessions for the class X students on January 30, aimed at guiding them towards wise academic choices and holistic personal development.
The first session was a career guidance programme conducted by the organization Draw My Career. The session emphasized that there is no single ‘best’ career; rather, the right career choice depends on an individual’s interests, personality, abilities, and skills. Students were encouraged not to make career decisions based on assumptions, peer pressure, or the popularity of professions.

Instead, they were guided to research various career options, understand future scope and required competencies, and choose appropriate courses and colleges. The speaker highlighted the growing importance of skill development alongside academic qualifications and explained how career assessment tools help identify strengths, motivation, and suitable career paths. Information on scholarships and aptitude tests was also shared, motivating students to explore opportunities that support their higher education journey.
The second session was an awareness programme on Smart Study Habits and Digital Well-Being, led by Fr Rohan Dias, CSsR. This session offered practical strategies to enhance learning and academic performance. Students were introduced to effective study techniques such as using flowcharts, diagrams, mind maps, and color coding for better understanding and revision. They were encouraged to explain lessons to others or practice in front of a mirror to strengthen clarity and confidence. Different learning styles—visual, auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic—were explained to help students identify methods best suited to them. Memory techniques like visualization, grouping, and acronyms were also discussed.
The resource person stressed the importance of writing clear and relevant answers during examinations, managing time according to marks, and focusing on quality rather than quantity. Guidance was given on planning study schedules, setting realistic goals, avoiding procrastination, and minimizing distractions caused by excessive mobile phone and social media use. The significance of adequate sleep and energy management for better concentration was also highlighted.
Overall, the sessions helped students realize that success is achieved through informed career decisions, disciplined study habits, effective time management, and balanced use of digital devices.
The programme was smoothly compered by Swetha, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Flavitha, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons and organizers for their valuable guidance and support.
