Kasturba Hospital, Manipal bring smiles to pediatric cancer patients by fulfilling children wishes

Udupi, Mar 17: In a heartwarming initiative, the department of pediatric oncology at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, in collaboration with Make-A-Wish Foundation, brought joy and hope to children undergoing cancer treatment by fulfilling their cherished wishes.

The initiative aimed to uplift young patients and their families, offering moments of happiness and emotional relief during a challenging phase of their lives. The Make-A-Wish Foundation, a globally recognized nonprofit headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, has been dedicated to granting wishes to children with serious illnesses and operates across more than 50 countries through its international network.

The event, organized in association with the Make A Wish foundation’s Bengaluru chapter, witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests and well-known personalities. Sharan Chilimbi, digital creator, The Powerhouse, Mangaluru and Rakshitha Shetty, runner-up, Big Boss, Kannada Season-12 were the chief guests of the programme. Dr Anil K Bhat, dean of KMC Manipal, Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, COO of Teaching Hospitals, MAHE, Manipal, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, and A B Bosco, representing the Make-A-Wish Foundation were present.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr Vasudeva Bhat, head department of paediatric oncology highlighted the significance of the initiative and expressed gratitude to the foundation for its continued support in bringing smiles to children battling serious illnesses. As part of the program, 75 children undergoing treatment received gifts of their choice, collectively valued at over Rs 10 lac. These meaningful gestures reflect the foundation’s commitment to providing emotional strength and encouragement to young patients.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharan Chilimbi appreciated the initiative and emphasized the importance of spreading positivity and hope among children. Rakshitha Shetty also shared her support, encouraging the children and their families with words of strength and resilience.

Dr Anil K Bhat lauded the collaborative effort, noting that such initiatives play a vital role in holistic patient care by addressing not only physical health but also emotional well-being.

The program left a lasting impact on both the children and the attendees, reinforcing the importance of kindness, empathy, and community support in the battle against illness. Through this heartwarming collaboration, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Kasturba Hospital have once again demonstrated their dedication to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
