Nepali woman held at Mumbai Airport for using fake Indian passport to fly to Oman

Mumbai, Nov 26: A woman of Nepali origin was arrested at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after she allegedly attempted to fly to Oman using a forged Indian passport. The incident came to light last week when the woman, identifying herself as Kajal, approached the immigration counter to board a flight to Muscat.

According to Sahar police, the passport she produced mentioned her birthplace as Nohra in Himachal Pradesh. However, her distinctly Nepali features raised suspicion among immigration officials, prompting a detailed verification.

During questioning, the woman admitted she was not an Indian citizen but a Nepali national. She revealed her real identity as Kajal Lama from Nepal’s Parsa district. Further inquiry found that she had used her family’s past migration to Himachal Pradesh to obtain an Aadhaar card, PAN card and a bona fide certificate using a fake address.

Police said she used these forged documents to procure an Indian passport from the Shimla Passport Office.

Following a complaint from the immigration department, the woman was arrested and charged with misleading passport authorities, forging identification documents and attempting illegal travel. Authorities are conducting further investigations into how she managed to secure multiple Indian IDs despite being a foreign national.
