Mumbai, Nov 25: A chlorine gas leak triggered panic in Vasai West on Tuesday, leaving around 10 to 12 people struggling to breathe. Those exposed complained of breathlessness, nausea and severe eye irritation and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Firefighters quickly reached the spot, used oxygen masks and removed the leaking cylinder. It was later neutralised near a drain away from residential areas. Officials confirmed that the situation is now under control and urged residents not to panic. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement in the locality for some time as a precaution.

One dead in Andheri chemical leak
In a separate incident on Saturday, a 20-year-old man died and two others were hospitalised after a chemical leak in an industrial building in Andheri MIDC. The leak occurred around 4:55 pm inside a two-storey unit in the Bhangarwadi area.
All three victims were severely affected and rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital. Ahmed Hussain was declared dead on arrival, while Naushad Ansari (28) and Saba Shaikh (17) remain in the ICU in critical condition.
16 students fall unconscious after Hardoi School gas leak
On November 20, 16 students at a private school in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, collapsed following a suspected gas leak. They were shifted to nearby hospitals, with one student later moved to Lucknow for specialised care.
District Magistrate Anunay Jha said an investigation is underway to trace the source of the leak and assured strict action once details are confirmed. A strong smell of gas spread across the campus, triggering panic as students rushed out of classrooms. Teachers evacuated the school and informed parents and authorities.
DM Jha, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena and other officials visited the school and later met the affected students in hospital. Officials confirmed that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of the situation and directed that all children receive proper medical attention.
