Mangaluru, Nov 11: Carmel School, CBSE, Kotekar celebrated National Education Day on November 11 with great enthusiasm and reverence to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister and a visionary leader who laid the foundation for the nation’s modern education system. The programme was thoughtfully organised and presented by the talented students of class 2C.
The event was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Dr Virupakshappa T, principal and lecturer in Kannada at Morarji Desai Residential PU College, Asodi, Yellur. The gathering also included principal Sr Pramila, administrator Sr Julie Ann, and vice principal Sr Anitha.

The celebration began with a prayer service, invoking God’s blessings for wisdom and learning, followed by a graceful welcome dance performed by Zimal and her team.
The students extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries, teachers, parents, and friends. Ridhi V and Tawhid beautifully presented the significance of National Education Day, highlighting Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s immense contributions to the field of education and emphasizing the vital role education plays in shaping the nation’s future.
A short skit by Nihal and his team portrayed the importance of education in daily life, while a captivating tableau depicted the inspiring life of Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba, showcasing his journey from a humble fruit seller to an education crusader who transformed the lives of hundreds of rural children. The students also performed a lively dance, adding colour and energy to the celebration.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest Dr Virupakshappa T shared insightful thoughts on the true essence of education. He emphasised that real education helps one distinguish between right and wrong and that learning extends beyond textbooks—drawing wisdom from family, society, nature, and everyday life. Using simple yet profound examples from nature, he urged students to be self-disciplined and active learners, taking inspiration from birds and insects that begin their day with purpose.
He further appreciated Dakshina Kannada’s long-standing reputation for excellence in education and credited its success to the community’s value for learning and the presence of strong educational institutions. He encouraged students to practise yoga and exercise regularly for a healthy mind and body. Drawing inspiration from Kudmul Ranga Rao and Harekala Hajabba, he reminded students to use education as a tool for social change and personal growth.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Alishan, Ayaan, and Ridha Fathima, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management, chief guest, teachers, parents, and students for their support and encouragement.
The National Education Day celebration at Carmel School served as a powerful reminder that education is not merely about acquiring knowledge it is a lifelong journey that shapes responsible, compassionate, and enlightened individuals ready to contribute meaningfully to society.
