After losing husband and son, Premalatha now fights for her own life – Please help

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru/Kasargod

Mangaluru/Kasargod, Dec 12: Life has dealt repeated and cruel blows to 50-year-old Premalatha Pricilla Monteiro, an anganwadi worker who is now facing her third major personal tragedy — breast cancer.

Premalatha lost her 49-year-old husband in a road accident several years ago. Six years later, her 16-year-old son succumbed to blood cancer after a long and painful battle. Today, she is the sole breadwinner of her family and is also responsible for the education and upbringing of her two younger sons.

In a heart-breaking turn of events, Premalatha herself has now been diagnosed with first-stage breast cancer. She detected the lump after watching an episode of Daijiworld TV’s Cancer Gellona awareness programme. Realising the seriousness, she visited the Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO) the very next day for evaluation.

According to the medical report issued by Dr Krishna Prasad, medical oncologist at MIO, Premalatha is diagnosed with carcinoma of the left breast (ER positive, HER2/neu positive). She has already undergone surgery in November 2025 and now requires six cycles of chemotherapy, followed by radiation therapy and one full year of maintenance treatment.

The estimated total cost of treatment is Rs 8 lac.

Doctors have assured that since the cancer was detected at an early stage, it is fully curable, provided the entire course of treatment is completed without financial interruption.

Premalatha works as a cleaner and caretaker for LKG and UKG students at St Joseph’s AUP School, Kaliyur near Vorkady.

Her sons are currently studying in 1st PUC in Permannur and in the 10th standard in Vorkady.

With no stable family support, arranging such a large amount is impossible for her. After enduring the unimaginable pain of losing her husband and teenage son, Premalatha now faces the biggest battle of her own life — with courage, hope, and deep faith.

This is a humble appeal to the generous readers of Daijiworld to come forward and extend financial support to help Premalatha complete her treatment. Every contribution, big or small, can save a life.

Let us come together once again as a compassionate community to save a mother who has already suffered unimaginable loss — and who now deserves a second chance at life.
