Mangaluru, Oct 8: Recognizing that true education extends beyond the classroom, the Department of French at St Aloysius Pre-University College organized a 10-day cultural expedition to France. The initiative aimed at offering students an immersive learning experience, allowing them to explore French art, history, architecture, and traditions while deepening their understanding of the language and culture.
Such international exposure plays a vital role in shaping globally minded students. It allows them to witness first-hand the heritage they study, engage in meaningful cultural exchanges, and develop broader perspectives that enrich both their academic journey and personal growth.

The expedition began in Paris with a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower, where students enjoyed panoramic views of the city. They admired the grandeur of the Notre Dame Cathedral, experienced the artistic charm of Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, and spent time at the serene Luxembourg Gardens, where they interacted with international students. At the Fragonard Perfume Museum, they were introduced to the fascinating art of French fragrance-making.
The group explored timeless masterpieces at the Louvre Museum, including works by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. A scenic Seine River cruise aboard the Bateaux Mouches offered a different perspective of Paris, while a day trip to the Palace of Versailles showcased the opulence of French royalty through its splendid halls and gardens.
The journey extended to Normandy, where students visited the historic Rouen Cathedral and explored the charm of its medieval old town. Returning to Paris, they were awed by the Arc de Triomphe and the bustling Champs-Élysées. The trip concluded with a magical day at Disneyland Paris, filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Along the way, students savored authentic French delicacies, from freshly made crêpes to colorful macarons, which added a delightful culinary dimension to their experience.
A total of 38 students participated in the expedition, accompanied by faculty members. The entire programme was coordinated by Mark Pereira from the Department of French.
This cultural expedition not only strengthened students’ appreciation of French heritage but also reaffirmed the College’s commitment to holistic education, where experiential learning nurtures both intellect and character.
