New Delhi, Aug 25: Indian gaming platform Winzo has announced two major moves just days after shutting down its real-money games in India due to the government’s blanket ban. The company has forayed into the US market with its gaming catalogue and simultaneously launched a short video platform in India.
Following the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, real-money games not classified as “games of skill” have been banned. Winzo, which had to take down such offerings, now only operates its free-to-play Ludo app on Google Play.
In a press release on Sunday, the company said its US expansion would bring Indian gaming innovation to a global audience. This move comes two years after Winzo entered Brazil. The firm plans to take its entire catalogue of over 100 e-sports and social games in 15 languages to the US market, supported by live-streaming technology, real-time game engines, AI-powered companions, and cybersecurity tools.
Back home, Winzo has launched a new subscription-based short video platform named Zo TV, which will focus on micro dramas. Unlike platforms such as Reels or Shorts, Zo TV will feature only first-party content. The platform currently offers three dubbed shows, with the first few episodes free and later ones priced at Rs 2 each.
Micro dramas, typically 2–20 minutes long, are gaining popularity worldwide. The format is expected to touch $10 billion in market size outside China by 2027, according to industry reports.
