Mangaluru, July 7: The Rachana Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mangaluru, hosted its distinctive members’ gathering, “Amchi Connect,” on June 29 at St Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Hall, Bendore. Held under the theme “My Association, My Responsibility,” the event focused on rejuvenating Rachana’s mission and fostering entrepreneurship among Catholic youth.
Rachana president John B Monteiro opened the session by reaffirming the organisation’s core vision of supporting entrepreneurs and promoting collaboration among its members. Emphasising the significance of the meet, he called on the members to collectively strengthen Rachana’s relevance in the current economic climate and serve as role models for emerging entrepreneurs. He urged the Catholic Church to support youth in pursuing self-employment locally and nationally, warning that unchecked migration to western countries could pose serious long-term challenges.

Founder member and former MLA J R Lobo delivered a thought-provoking address, reflecting on Rachana’s founding ideals and its progress over the years. He expressed concern over the continued economic disparity faced by the Catholic community compared to others and highlighted the alarming trend of youth leaving the country post-education. Stressing the importance of local business development, he advocated for structured guidance in banking, finance, and marketing for young entrepreneurs. He underscored Rachana’s potential to inspire new ventures, support existing investors, and strengthen its global network. He also called for deeper collaboration with parishes, dioceses, and other organisations.
Former presidents Marcel Monteiro and Gilbert D’Souza offered valuable insights into Rachana’s evolving role and opportunities for further growth. Guest speaker Michael D’Souza encouraged Rachana to pass on its expertise to the younger generation and proposed forming a crisis management team to support struggling entrepreneurs within the community.
The session also facilitated open dialogue, allowing members to raise questions and share suggestions. Active participants included George Pais, Colin Miranda, Sunil Vas, Vincent Cutinha, Stany Alvares, and Dr Jessica Monteiro.
The programme was convened by Eulalia D’Souza, with CA Vikram Saldanha compering the event. Lavina Monteiro led the opening prayer, and secretary Vijay Lobo delivered the vote of thanks.
“Amchi Connect” proved to be a meaningful platform to deliberate on Rachana’s future course, reaffirm its commitment to entrepreneurship, and mentor the next generation through sustained support systems. The event concluded with a monsoon-themed dinner.
