Mumbai, Jun 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a yellow alert for Mumbai through Thursday, June 26, as the city braces for a week of intensified monsoon activity. With heavy rainfall and high tides forecast, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also issued an advisory to all departments and residents, urging caution and preparedness.
According to the IMD, heavy showers are expected to lash the city on June 23 and 24, accompanied by generally overcast skies. Daytime temperatures will hover between 31°C to 32°C, while minimums will remain around 26°C, making conditions warm and humid.

The rain is expected to ease slightly on June 25, bringing moderate showers, but another strong spell is predicted for June 26, when maximum temperatures may dip to around 31°C and the minimum to 24°C. The wet spell is likely to continue into June 27 and 28, with slightly cooler highs of 29°C and 30°C and lows between 23°C and 24°C.
Commuters are advised to prepare for possible delays, traffic congestion, and waterlogging, especially in low-lying areas. With the monsoon firmly established, Mumbaikars are urged to carry umbrellas or raincoats while travelling.
Adding to the city’s weather woes, the IMD has also issued a high tide warning from June 24 to June 28. During this period, the sea is expected to witness tides exceeding 4.5 metres, with the highest tide projected on June 26. In response, the BMC has placed all civic departments on alert, ensuring swift action in case of any emergency.
The civic body has appealed to the public to stay away from seashores during high tide hours, warning that venturing close to the coastline may pose serious danger. This monsoon season, 19 major high tides are expected between June and September.
As Mumbai endures another monsoon season, authorities and residents alike are being reminded to stay alert, act responsibly, and prioritise safety amid the looming threat of heavy rainfall and rising sea levels.
