Nagpur, Jun 14: Maharashtra is set to get its first full-scale helicopter manufacturing plant with an investment of ?8,000 crore, as Max Aerospace & Aviation Pvt Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state industries department on Friday.
The MoU was signed by industries secretary P Anbalagan and Max Aerospace chairman Bharat Malkani in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and senior officials.
According to the agreement, the plant will come up in Nagpur, with operations expected to begin by 2026. The project aims to generate around 2,000 direct and indirect jobs over the next eight years.
“This will be Maharashtra’s first dedicated helicopter production facility, and it marks a major step in boosting our aerospace capabilities,” said CM Fadnavis. He assured full support from the state, adding that Nagpur has already developed key infrastructure for defence manufacturing.
The upcoming plant will serve as a Centre of Excellence for the customisation, integration, and flight testing of rotary-wing aircraft, and will leverage the proximity to Nagpur airport for logistics and operations.
Bharat Malkani said, “Nagpur offers a complete ecosystem for aerospace. Being from Maharashtra, I chose to invest here and aim to make the state a national leader in helicopter production.”
