Mumbai, Jun 10: Mumbai’s ambitious coastal road project — officially named Dharamveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road — is steadily reshaping the city’s commute experience, offering a faster, smoother route for motorists battling daily congestion.
Over a year since the inauguration of its first phase, the coastal road has already eased vehicular pressure on major arterial routes. Now, the long-awaited Worli promenade extension is set to open later this month, bringing a fresh wave of connectivity after nearly seven years of meticulous construction.
The project, touted as a landmark urban infrastructure initiative, runs parallel to the city’s western shoreline. It is designed not only to reduce travel time but also to decongest some of Mumbai’s busiest stretches, including Marine Drive, Haji Ali, and Worli Seaface.
With speed limits fixed at 80 km/h, the road ensures both efficiency and safety for commuters. Entry and exit points have been strategically placed, linking key areas and offering seamless integration with existing traffic networks. Toll charges are expected to be implemented after the full completion of the project, with pricing details yet to be officially announced.
Urban planners believe the road is a game-changer — slashing travel times from Marine Drive to Worli to under 10 minutes and significantly reducing the fuel burden for daily travelers.
As the city readies for the opening of the next segment, Mumbaikars can expect smoother rides and more scenic commutes, with the coastal road emerging as a vital artery in the city’s transportation landscape.
