LIC leads market gains as top firms add Rs 1 lac cr in value

Mumbai, Jun 1: Despite a weak trend in the equity market last week, four of India’s top-10 most valued companies saw a combined surge of Rs 1,01,369.5 cr in market valuation, with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) emerging as the biggest gainer.

The BSE benchmark, however, ended the week 270.07 points or 0.33% lower. While firms like LIC, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and State Bank of India gained in value, others such as Reliance Industries, TCS, ICICI Bank, Infosys, Bajaj Finance and Hindustan Unilever saw a combined loss of Rs 34,852.35 cr in market capitalisation.

LIC’s valuation soared by Rs 59,233.61 cr to reach Rs 6,03,120.16 cr, making it the top gainer. SBI followed with a rise of Rs 19,589.54 cr, touching Rs 7,25,036.13 cr. Bharti Airtel added Rs 14,084.2 cr to settle at Rs 10,58,766.92 cr, and HDFC Bank gained Rs 8,462.15 cr, taking its value to Rs 14,89,185.62 cr.

On the losing side, TCS witnessed the biggest erosion of Rs 17,909.53 cr, bringing its valuation to Rs 12,53,486.42 cr. Reliance Industries dropped Rs 7,645.85 cr to Rs 19,22,693.71 cr. Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever and Infosys also saw marginal declines in their valuations.

Reliance Industries continued to lead as the most valued firm, followed by HDFC Bank, TCS, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, SBI, Infosys, LIC, Bajaj Finance, and Hindustan Unilever.
