Mysuru, May 21: In a significant political development, minister for cooperation K N Rajanna has announced his decision to step away from electoral politics, marking the end of an era in his long public service journey.
Addressing media persons in Mysuru, the 75-year-old veteran leader stated, “I have decided not to contest any more elections due to my age. However, my commitment to the cooperative sector and active politics will continue.”

Rajanna, known for his deep-rooted involvement in Karnataka's cooperative movement, reaffirmed his dedication to cleanse the sector from vested interests. “We will take firm action to free the cooperative sector from those who misuse it for personal gain,” he added.
Touching upon the ongoing debate surrounding the Cooperative Sector Amendment Bill, Rajanna clarified that since the proposed changes fall entirely under the state’s jurisdiction, there is no constitutional compulsion to seek approval from the Centre.
“Both Houses have passed the amendment as per public expectation and it has been sent to the Governor. However, the Governor has suggested referring the matter to the Centre. We believe that this is unnecessary and will deliberate further on the matter before taking action,” he asserted.
The minister’s announcement is being viewed as a defining moment in Karnataka’s political landscape, especially in the cooperative domain, where Rajanna has long been considered a stalwart.
