Bengaluru techie commits suicide, colleagues blame manager’s harassment

Bengaluru, May 20: A tragic incident of a techie allegedly ending his life by jumping into a lake in Bengaluru has come to light. The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Somavamshi, an IISc graduate who was working at a private company in Koramangala.

According to police, Nikhil’s body was recovered from Agara Lake, and initial investigations suggest that work pressure may have driven him to take the extreme step. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the HSR Layout police station.

The incident, which is believed to have occurred recently, has sparked outrage on social media, where Nikhil’s colleagues have alleged that workplace harassment by his manager played a major role in his death.

"Nikhil was an excellent student since his college days. But he was mentally disturbed due to harassment from an American-origin manager who often targeted newly recruited employees," alleged a coworker on social media.

Several employees have reportedly quit the company earlier, citing mental harassment and pressure from the same manager, especially after the firm started facing financial difficulties. "The company was under loss, several had resigned, and the remaining staff were overburdened. The manager constantly pressured and harassed the team," another colleague posted online.

Police are currently investigating the matter from all angles.
