Bengaluru, Apr 29: Amid the scandal involving Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna and 'obscene videos', a letter penned by a Karnataka BJP leader has surfaced. In the letter addressed to the state's party president, the leader claimed possession of a pen drive containing nearly 3,000 videos depicting women engaged in sexual acts. Allegedly used by Revanna for blackmail purposes, these videos could potentially deal a significant blow to the BJP-JD(S) alliance in the state.
Dated December 8, 2023, the letter from Devaraje Gowda, who stood as the BJP's candidate for the Holenarsipura constituency in the 2023 Assembly elections, highlighted grave allegations against several members of the HD Deve Gowda family, including Prajwal Revanna, the NDA candidate of the JD(S), with whom the BJP is in alliance.
According to Gowda, the pen drive contained a total of 2,976 videos, with some featuring government officials. These videos were purportedly utilized to coerce the women into further engaging in sexual activities.
Furthermore, the BJP leader asserted that another pen drive containing the same videos, along with photos, had been delivered to national leaders of the Congress.
Expressing concern, Gowda warned of potential repercussions should the BJP align with the JD(S) and nominate a candidate from the party for the Lok Sabha elections in Hassan. He described the videos as a 'Brahmastra' (destructive weapon), which could tarnish the party's reputation on a national scale.
The JD(S) joined the NDA in September 2023.
This development unfolded as Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda, found himself embroiled in the scandal. It began after explicit videos surfaced on social media just two days before the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26.
Seeking re-election, the 33-year-old JD(S) MP contested as the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which held elections on April 26.
Sources indicate that Revanna departed for Frankfurt from Bengaluru on Sunday.
