Mangaluru: Police arrest convicted accused in Puttur on Karnataka HC warrant

Mangaluru, Oct 6: Mangaluru Rural police tracked down and arrested a convicted accused in Puttur on Tuesday following an arrest warrant issued by the Karnataka High Court and produced him before the court.

The accused has been identified as Mohammed Mustafa alias Mustafa (36), son of Ismail, a resident of Nelady village in Puttur, while he is currently residing at 34th Nekkilady village in Puttur.

Mustafa is the second accused in Mangaluru Rural police station Crime No. 59/2013, registered under Section 394 with Section 34 of the IPC, corresponding to SC No. 65/2013 before the principal district and sessions court, Mangaluru, in which he had been convicted and sentenced.

Challenging the judgment and sentence, Mustafa filed criminal appeal No. 602/2015 before the Karnataka High Court. However, after filing the appeal, he remained absent before the court.

Following his continued absence, the Karnataka High Court issued an arrest warrant directing that he be apprehended and produced before the court.

Acting on the warrant, a police team proceeded to Mustafa’s present address at 34th Nekkilady village, Subhash Nagar House in Puttur on Tuesday, October 6, and traced him.

The operation was carried out under the direction of Mangaluru South division ACP Vijaya Kranti and under the leadership of Mangaluru Rural police station inspector D R Manjappa.

Mangaluru Rural police station PSI Arun Kumar D led the operation, assisted by head constables Kamalaksha, Melwin Pinto and Hanumareddy along with constables Ramesh and Birendra.

The team also received assistance from officers and personnel of Uppinangady police station, Dakshina Kannada district.

With their assistance, police arrested Mustafa and produced him before the Karnataka High Court in compliance with the arrest warrant issued against him.
