5 years back Nalin Kateel promised to end toll collection at Brahmarakotlu. Now everybody has forgotten it. The reason toll gates are set up is to collect money for building the roads and maintain it. But people think government has built them and handed over to the private players. This would be right if private builders had invested their own money. The truth is the central government has borrowed heavily from World Bank and IMF and only added 2 more lanes which were existing. Providing infrastructure is the duty of the government and all money collected through direct and indirect taxes are huge. Toll collection is not sufficient to pay back the interest of the money borrowed, that's the reason people are robbed daily despite paying heavy road tax on vehicles as well as heavy loot through expensive fuel rates. Unless people wake up this loot will continue and in 10 years we will face same situation as Srilanka.
