Mumbai, Oct 6: Superstar Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in the trailer of Jailer 2, which promises a bigger action spectacle, a new criminal syndicate and a fresh set of enemies. Sun Pictures released the official trailer on Monday, October 5, ahead of the film's worldwide theatrical release on October 15.

Directed and written by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. Rajinikanth reprises his role as retired jailer Muthuvel Pandian, popularly known as Tiger.

The trailer begins with Dileep, played by Suraj Venjaramoodu, trying to track down Muthuvel Pandian. It is revealed that Muthuvel has been keeping a low profile and working as a driver while secretly investigating the larger criminal network behind the idol-smuggling operation that he dismantled in the first film.

The investigation leads him to a much larger syndicate, referred to as Kalpaks in the trailer. The sequel therefore expands the conflict beyond the idol-smuggling group seen in Jailer, with powerful figures operating behind the network.

The trailer also shows that Muthuvel is once again drawn into action. Despite living an apparently ordinary life, he remains the formidable figure known as Tiger, and the promo teases his confrontation with several powerful adversaries.

SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mithun Chakraborty are among the new additions to the cast. The trailer confirms Mithun Chakraborty's presence while Vidya Balan and SJ Suryah are seen in prominent roles, with their characters appearing to be connected to the new threat facing Muthuvel.

The sequel also brings back several familiar faces. Mohanlal returns as Mathew, Shivarajkumar reprises his role as Narasimha, and Jackie Shroff returns as Kamdev. Yogi Babu, Ramya Krishnan and other actors from the franchise are also part of the cast.

The trailer retains Nelson's mix of action and dry humour that characterised the first film. Alongside elaborate action sequences, it features comic exchanges and understated moments involving Rajinikanth's character.

Anirudh Ravichander returns as the music composer, while Vijay Kartik Kannan is the cinematographer and R Nirmal is the editor. Drk Kiran is the art director and Chethan D'Souza has handled the action choreography. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner.

Jailer 2 is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on October 15, 2026.
