Kundapur, Jan 28: A student who was going to college by a private bus died as he fell under the tyres of the bus while alighting. He was travelling on the footboard of the bus. This tragic incident was reported from Hemmady on Saturday January 28 morning.

The deceased is identified as Sudeep (20), final year B Com student and resident of Kat Belthoor near Hemmady.

The incident occurred on a private bus that was coming from Sagar and going to Kundapur. Sudeep, who boarded the bus at Kat Belthoor, was travelling on the footboard of the bus as the bus was full of passengers. The bus stopped at Hemmady. Passengers alighted and boarded the bus. As the bus started moving, the bus suddenly stopped to allow a woman who did not get down at Hemmady. During this moment, Sudeep lost his balance and fell below the front tyre as the bus had only front door. Though the driver tried to save Sudeep, he died as the tyre went over his hips.

As all educational institutions of Kundapur begin at the same time, students are forced to travel dangerously on the footboard as there is no space inside the bus. The plight of student of Hemmady and Tallur is worst as there are few buses. The public has been requesting to provide additional government and private buses during morning hours.

Time to cancel licensed of private buses and introduce government buses. Private buses only want profit no value for life of passengers.

Why our buses having no doors ? it is a wake up call to Government - doors for vehicle equally important as seat belts and Helmet rule.

We see during the morning hours there is too much crowd on the bus, especially among college students. the bus conductors do not mind the rush due to the profit level and students sometimes do not make sufficient efforts to take earlier buses, or there may be a lack of buses, these are the areas where the Govt should put new ksrtc buses.
