Mangaluru, Jan 27: The locals here protested by stopping a truck which was carrying the fish wastewater and spilling it along the road instead of storing it in retro-fitted tanks.

The truck carrying the fish wastewater to the mill factories at Kotepura had spilled wastewater on the road from Abbakka Circle to Mogaveera Patna while transporting it.

As a result, a two-wheeler rider slipped and fell on the road. Locals who stopped the truck took the truck driver to task.

Speaking on the occasion, local fisherman Ganesh Ullal said, "The fish mill factories in Kotepura are violating the norms by the government. These factories are releasing polluted water into the sea. It has led to a decline in fish numbers in the sea. Now, the fish waste is being transported from various places and it has resulted in a foul smell in the environment."

Later, the fish mill factory employees cleaned spilled fish wastewater on the road. Ullal City Municipal Council commissioner Vidya Kaale has taken action against the truck driver, reportedly.

just take a drive from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM on the roads and you will see all the vehicles carrying fish have their drains spilling water on the roads. This creates bad smell not only on the roads, but also on your vehicles. This goes all the way to neighbouring towns and villages. There is not one road that is spared of this menace. Hope the district administration, environment dept and the traffic police do their job @Mangaluru @DKcommissionerate @BJP

next time there is a vehicle like this passing by ..check which policeman was on duty when the truck passed the nearest police checkpoints in the main highway. Suspend him from duty or send him to jail .as it more likely that he has let the vehicle pass after collecting regular Bribe. Also check for vested interests at play ..Maybe the protestors are selectively targeting certain vehicles only for non-payment of regular hafta. Anything is possible ,we cannot rule out .. overall ..Yes this kind of Dirty water leakage should be stopped.
