Hubballi, Dec 2: Stung by the flak received by his government and ruling BJP over the Voters Data Theft scam in Bengaluru, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday denied the charges that names of voters belonging to minority communities have been deleted from the voters list in the State.

“It is totally baseless that unofficial surveys are being done to delete the names of voters belonging to minority communities,’’ he said speaking to media persons at the Hubballi arrival on his tour of Dharwad district.

Bommai denied that the State Government on its own or any non-official agencies was deleting the names of voters belonging to minority communities in the voters list.

The Chief Minister said the action of Chilume Trust in the assembly constituencies of BBMP limits is already under investigation of the State Election Commission and the Central Election Commission has also ordered the revision of the voters list in three assembly constituencies.

At the same time, he said there have been some unofficial inclusion of names besides there are cases people having voter IDs in more than one places.

The State and Central poll panels must look into all the irregularities, he said asserting that the genuine voters should not be deprived of voting rights under any circumstances. The Election Commission must look into all this, he said.

The Chief Minister said that he has already directed the police officials to probe into the incident of a Kannadiga student being assaulted in connection with the border dispute. Action will be taken against the guilty, he said clarifying that the police have informed that they have not assaulted anybody.

“I have directed the police to find out the truth,’’ he said making it clear that action will be taken against the guilty persons.

Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister greeted BJP National President J P Nadda on his birthday.

Bommai released a booklet brought out by the Karnataka Border Area Development Authority by its president Dr C Somasheakra.
