Gurugram, Jul 12: A software engineer allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death inside her rented flat in Haryana's Gurugram before reportedly dying by suicide by jumping in front of a moving train, police said.

The incident came to light after the woman's family became concerned when she stopped responding to their calls and alerted the police.

The victim, identified as Ishaka, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was staying in a rented accommodation in Sector 55, Gurugram.

According to police, her family approached the Sector 56 police station after several attempts to contact her went unanswered. When police reached the flat and forced open the door, they found Ishaka lying in a pool of blood.

Preliminary investigation revealed that she had allegedly been stabbed multiple times with a knife. Forensic teams later inspected the scene and collected evidence.

During the investigation, police learnt that her friend Shresth Malik (25), a software engineer from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, had visited the flat.

While searching for him, police received information about a man's body found on the railway tracks in Gurugram. The deceased was identified as Shresth Malik.

Police suspect that Malik died by suicide by jumping before a moving train after allegedly killing Ishaka.

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the families of the deceased have been informed.

Sector 56 Station House Officer Manoj Kumar said an investigation is underway. Police are examining CCTV footage, call detail records and other evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The exact motive behind the alleged murder and the subsequent death of the accused will be established after the completion of the investigation.
