Daijiworld Media Network

New Delhi, Jul 5: India’s first woman Union Finance Minister in almost five decades, Nirmala Sitharaman presented the full-fledged Union Budget for the current financial year Friday, July 5, where she proposed reforms in several sectors including PSBs, tax returns and railways.

Sitharaman proposed a Re 1 per litre cess on petrol and diesel prices, and hiked customs duty on gold and precious metals to 12.5 per cent from 10 per cent. She also said that Aadhaar card can be used in place of PAN for filing income taxes now. Also, from the current fiscal year, Rs 2-5 crore taxable income will see effective tax rate rising by 3 per cent and total effective tax rate will be higher by 7 per cent for those with a taxable income of over Rs 5 crore. She also said that the government has proposed a Rs 70,000 crore capital infusion into government-owned banks this year.

Sitharaman also said, “The Government is working towards ‘Har Ghar Jal’ by 2024, 10,000 new farmer producer organisations will be set up, 9.6 crore toilets have been constructed since October 2014, New Space India Limited (NSIL) has been incorporated to tap the benefits of ISRO.” “Railway infrastructure would need an investment of Rs 50 lakh crore between 2018 and 2030. We are looking to implement one nation, one grid in the power sector,” she said.

Dr Swamy is spot on exposing Ms Sitaraman’s Fekugiri. In paragraph 10 she says “It took 55 years to reach 55 trillion while we (NDA) added 1 more trillion in 5 years and today we are nearing 3 trillion economy “. Swamy rightly quips: “How did the government add 1 trillion by May 26th 2019 and how did it reach 3 trillion in just 3 weeks ? Hare Ram”

All frustrations after May 23 ,2019, let out in one go here... it seems. Understandable...
However, let the main 'Theme' of the budget may not be forgotten...
'A House, electricity and water for all by 2022...' ...Not thought of so far....
The mandate this Government got is for reaching out to the common man. The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana is a big hit..I am telling you... So also the relaxation for interest on home loans, subsidy and incentives this time round too. what one must note is all these 'Incentives' is not just on paper...THEY ARE REACHING THE COMMON MAN, UNLIKE UPA REGIMES WHERE MIDDLE MEN ATE EVERYTHING"...
Don't criticize just for the sake of it...see the blueprint...see the boost given to infra structure spending..
As for the increase in cess on fuels, you have to get revenue from somewhere don't you?? Everything can't be fed that easily...
Budgets will be presented by the same Government till 2029 don't worry...

The ideal budget should have also included the following among others:
    1. Replace the petrol/diesel vehicles with electric in phased manner. This will save a lot of foreign exchange, savings on environmental expenses, healthcare expenses etc.
    2. Build new nuclear power plants in order to meet the future demand for electricity.
    3. Increase in subsidies for buying new electric vehicles.
    4. Zero percent financing for buying new electric vehicles (This loan will be easy to pay off as there are no expenses for petrol/diesel).
    5. Old petrol guzzlers buyback program in exchange for electric vehicle.
    6. Incentives for water conservation program.
    7. Incentive for planting trees (Example: Rs.1000 per tree for 5 years as against promised Rs.15 lakhs free money).
    8. Nuclear power plants to meet the increasing demand for electricity.
    9. Mandatory sensors for water taps, kitchen faucets and bathroom showers.
    10. Dredging all the rivers in the nation.

The entire 'plus' in the budget can be summed up in one line: "Disinvestment target of 1,05,000 crores".

Because, it is this money that the Government can hope to spend on any development tasks.

But to disinvest, PSUs need to be liquidated, throwing possibly a million people to unemployment.

And the liquidated PSUs will be in the hands of the likes of Adani, who probably pay no tax in India (as holding companies are in tax havens).

So, ordinary Indians will be worse off.

Hold on to your gods and goddesses (and imported Chinese gadgets). No one else be there to help you!
