Mangaluru, Oct 9: In respect of an incident in which fake documents were created by using duplicate seal of the panchayat office and fake signature of the official concerned, the person possessing the fake record and a member of Munnur gram panchayat near Ullal have absconded, police sources revealed.

It was found that Abdul Nasir H A alias Seedibava, resident of Madani Nagar in Ullal, had created fake seal of the gram panchayat and created documents with the aim of duping and misleading the authorities. Nasir had arrived at the panchayat for making amendments in the Adhar card belonging to his daughter, Nida Fatima, on October 8. During the scrutiny, it was found that the certificate produced was fake.

The forged document was created on September 13. On that date, the officials found, Munnur panchayat did not have a development officer. The previous development officer, Krishnamurthy, had committed suicide by hanging himself in the toilet of the office. The signature of the deceased official was used to create documents after his death, the officials realized.

After this forgery came into the open, an emergency meeting was convened in Munnur gram panchayat office. It is said that Ismail, member of Madani Nagar fifth ward, confessed to have committed this offence, and sought to be forgiven. The panchayat is aware that he was involved with an earlier case in which fake door numbers were allotted to nine houses. But the then panchayat development officer had not initiated any steps against him. Therefore, other members insisted that suitable legal steps should be taken against Ismail as he has indulged in forging of documents more than once and defrauded the panchayat. In compliance with this demand, the panchayat officials filed complaint in Ullal police station.

As soon as the case was registered, both Ismail and Nasir were asked to be present in the police station for questioning. But both of them failed to appear in the police station and disappeared, it is said.

It is said that Ismail, who represents Madani Nagar fifth ward in the panchayat, has provided land records, door number documents etc to many villagers, and there is suspicion among the residents of the area that many of these documents could be fake.
