Hubballi, Aug 24: Traders from North Karnataka have now benefitted with Airport Authority of India (AAI) giving permission to start air cargo services from Hubballi.

Currently, Indigo and Spicejet passenger flights have been given permission to carry cargo and Air India is planning to start the service soon.

“Efforts are being made to construct a separate building for the cargo service in the airport. Necessary facilities have been provided for this additional service. Businessmen from Hubballi can easily send their products as well as receive products from other cities,” Hubballi airport director S K Ahilya told media.

“There are a lot of opportunities for import and export of materials from Hubballi and the new service will benefit industrialists, businessmen and farmers. There is a huge scope for air freight services. Currently four flights are operating daily from Hubballi,” explained Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI)’s Honorary Secretary Vinay Javali.

He further added that a team had come from Chennai to conduct survey of the demand of air cargo service in Hubballi. “This is a clear indicator that the cargo service network will broaden in future. Though it is bit pricy, people still prefer the service as it’s fast and efficient,” he said.

Those who are interested in the air freight service can contact: 84482 91481 (Indigo) and 79078 28152 (Spicejet).
