Melwin D'Silva promoted as GM in Air India, Mohit Sain takes over Middle East charge

Dubai, Sep 20 : Melwin D’Silva who was the regional manager for Middle East and Africa for Air India since last three years, located in Dubai, has now been promoted as General Manager, Marketing Planning, in head office New Delhi.

Melwin, an MBA graduate from B K School of Management in Gujarat, joined Indian Airlines in Ahmadabad and has worked in various capacities including as the country manager in Pakistan between 2006 and 2008.

Melwin has also served Mangalore between 1998 - 2002 and again in 2011-2013. He has also given his service as station manager for Goa, Indore and Ahmadabad.

He joined Indian Airlines in 1986 and has been working in airline for more than 30 years.

Mohit Sain, who has immense experience in various important portfolios in Air India and has been associated with the launch of Air India's frequent flyer programmes, also part of the team which worked on star alliance project and knows the pulse of Gulf region as he was the country manager Oman in the past has replaced D’Silva as Middle East and Africa Regional manager.

The handing over of the position, and award programmes to various agencies was held in Millennium Hotel on Tuesday, September 19.

Speaking on the occasion, Melwin D’Silva, said  "20 September 2014 exactly 3 years ago as the sun had set in the horizon of the Dubai sky , I was seated in one of the aircrafts fast approaching the Dubai airport , Mark me I was a bundle of mixed emotions. An emotion of anticipation, excitement accompanied by apprehension and a bit of anxiety. Yes here I was on the verge of shouldering the responsibility of a very big region of Gulf and Africa of Air India. A region which is the largest in terms of revenues and operations outside the shores of India and also overlooking the functions of 2 airlines the legacy carrier Air India and the LCC subsidiary Air India express "

"Though the 3 years were challenging specially for the aviation Industry, which has seen a lot of induction of capacity and falling yields. However at Air India we were able to sustain retain and maintain our numbers in spite of no major induction of our capacity. I am standing here before you with great satisfaction today,” Melwin added.

He gave the credit of his success to his colleague and agencies who stood behind Air India. He praised the media for giving positive coverage on national carrier.

Melwin D’Silva, was widely credited for bringing tremendous changes and development in Air India and specially Air India Express, a budget airline.

The appreciation awards were presented to various travel partners who attended from across GCC and middle east.

    Congratulations Sir! I can certainly observe definite positive change in Air India Express in the past three years. I prefer AIE compared to any other Airline to Mangalore! Lot of people from the Gulf and Mangalore opined the same with me! Long live AI & AIE Express! This is what a good management can yield to a national career. Im not saying AI & AIE is on profit, but customer satisfaction has improved by large extent! May it grow as one among the best airlines in Asia if not the first in coming years!
