Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Sep 8: The working journalist union and Karnataka journalists' association submitted a memorandum to assistant deputy commissioner and IGP Hemanth Nimbalkar after Bantwal police arrested a reporter of a web portal and newspaper on September 7 for his report on the disrespect shown to Quran during the police search at Khalandar's residence.

On September 2, during the search at Khalandar's residence, accused in Sharat murder case, it was claimed that police allegedly showed ‘disrespect’ to Quran and ‘tore’ Madrasa books while conducting the search. This news was carried by a web portal alleging that police had disrespected Quran.

Later SP Sudheer Kumar Reddy denied the allegations and clarified that the police personnel in the search team did not touch any religious books. He also said that the police have video recording as proof. The video was also released to mediapersons and it was found that the SP was right.

The police arrested the journalist under section 153 (A) and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal code. He was produced before the court on Friday evening.

As IGP was not present during the meet, he assured to meet journalist union on September 14 and to look into the matter.

Jaganath Shetty Bala, Sudesh Jain, Srinivas Nayak and Tharnath Kapikaad from district working journalists' association and others were present.

Finally DK Police started showing some spine by arresting the murderers, filing cases against MP, arresting disguised hatemongers etc. Please crackdown on all illegal activities like drugs, sand, cow theft etc on immediate basis. You have long way to go and don't bog down to any pressure.

Nobody should be allowed to spread roomers without any proof be it is a journalist or common man. These days it has become fashion to protect God by common people instead of other way. God should protect us all. There is no need to protect God .This is applicable for all religions.

If you want to arrest Journalists ...Arrest them...But don't be selective..... If you do that half of kannada Journalists would be in Jail and most of the kannada news channel and dailies would be banned (hindutva lie peddling networks)... You don't want to do that

The police has not refuted the story. It is amusing to know that they show a video to "prove" the story was fake. Surely, they only shot the portions they want to show. Also, if the report wasn't true, the police have not told us where the pics came from. this is a state where there are celebrations on social media on the killing of a frial old woman, and threats. Everyone who indulges in these go free. Instead of catching those who actually have indulged in violence, the police try and indimidate the journalist because the article was against them. Shows how deep is the sangh parivar's influence in the system

Secularism is slowly dying in India since 2014. Arresting minorities in not secular no matter what they do. Right or wrong....This is not my India.
