Mangaluru: Foreign currencies worth Rs 69.74 lac seized at airport

Mangaluru, Mar 20: In one of the major detections made at the Mangaluru International Airport, the officers of airport customs on Saturday March 18 seized assorted foreign currency notes of 10 countries, including US dollars, Russian roubles, euros, pound sterling etc, equivalent to Rs 69.74 lac.

On inputs received that a passenger who was departing to Dubai on March 18, vide Air India Express flight IX-383 would attempt to smuggle foreign currency, the passenger was identified and intercepted. On thorough examination of the baggage, assorted foreign currency notes were found secreted in socks and concealed inside the jeans trousers were found in the checked in baggage of the passenger.

The passenger was arrested and produced before the principal civil judge (senior division) and chief judicial magistrate, Mangaluru, who remanded the passenger in 14 days judicial custody.

Further investigation in the matter is being carried out.
