Mangalore, Nov 22:
“Students should unite to curb the use of plastic”, said DC Dr N S Channappa Gowda.

He was addressing the students at an awareness program ‘plastic-free city and students’ contribution’ jointly organized under aegis of Information department, Mangalore, DK district administration and St Aloysius College Mangalore here on Tuesday November 20.

He added that plastic has badly affected the planet earth and the environment. With the increasing population and commercialization environment has bore the brunt. Curbing on use of plastic is inevitable for safeguarding the coming generation, he said.

Dr Harish Kumar, MCC commissioner who was the resource person on the occasion said that curb on usage of plastic turned out to be a challenging task as plastic are not scientifically disposed. He observed that plastic used for mere ten minutes will remain in this planet for years together. Cattles die by consuming them and also chemical elements adversely affect human beings. Students must pledge to make plastic-free society, he asserted.

He also said that plastic wastes will be collected door to door from December 1.

St Aloysius College principal Fr Swebert D’Silva presided. He said that imposing self control over use of plastic is the best way to avoid using plastic rather than by any law forces.

Information Department senior assistant director Rohini K, Registrar Prof. A M Narahari, vice principals professor John D’Silva, Judy Pinto among others were present.

Yes. Indeed plastic desrtuction is very very essential. I appriciate the step taken by Our DC MR. Chennappa Gowda. I have seen Many of the western countries how properly having the waste is disposed. For this people awarenss and education is important, at the same time punishment by imposing fine by the municipal corpoarion is also bring fear among the culprits. I Myself being an exseviceman in Army Medical corps as an public health Inspector had great difficulty during my service. So Salute the authority pl. implement law and order. Also let public understand.

We totally agree with Mr Channappa Gowda . Plastic must be banned for ever . Just a few days back when i was travelling by train from Bangalore to Mangalore i saw a group of 6 men burning ( metal coated with plastic ) on the river bed of Nethravathi river . They were burning huge quantities of plastic waste on the river bed when there was a low tide. A jeep was driven on the side along with the waste. I knew this was scrap waste and they wanted to burn this metal coated with plastic so that , they can use the metal for selling . Sure they were scrap dealers . Is there anybody to monitor the river where the water is supplied for Mangalore City .I saw Rotary Club is arraging for a musical show to create awareness . My request is first we should go to the route cause to understand why people are getting Lung Cancer, Heart-attacks, and other health problems than giving musical shows etc which will have no adverse effect on citizens. Hot Food served in plastic containers , Hot tea served in plastic cups , Burning of plastic etc is having adverse effect on peoples health and enviornment . Europe as banned plastic and is still continuing awareness. After all plastic is a product of Petroleum which is dangerous .
