Aditya Dhar moves legal action over plagiarism claim on Dhurandhar

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 3: Filmmaker Aditya Dhar has issued a legal notice to filmmaker Santosh Kumar RS after the latter alleged that the upcoming film Dhurandhar The Revenge was plagiarised from his script.

Santosh claimed that the Ranveer Singh-starrer was copied from a script he registered in 2023, stating that his project had been “manipulated” and “exploited”. He also asserted that he possesses proof from the Screenwriters Association.

However, a source close to the development said Dhar, through his legal team, has refuted the allegations and asked Santosh to refrain from making what he termed as false claims. The source added that further legal action is being initiated as Santosh continues to level accusations.

Santosh, on the other hand, maintained that he has not received any formal legal notice, but only a response to his email. He alleged that he was being pressured to withdraw his claims and accused the makers of attempting to silence him.

Detailing similarities, Santosh said his script titled D-Saheb revolves around a young boy whose family is attacked by criminals, leading him to seek revenge. He claimed the protagonist, the son of a former Army officer, later becomes a covert operative sent to Pakistan to tackle terrorism—elements he alleges have been replicated in Dhurandhar The Revenge.

He further alleged that despite attempts, he was unable to reach Dhar directly and was instead redirected between production houses including Jio Studios and B62 Studios. He said he plans to take legal recourse and has asked the makers to respond in court.

Sources from Dhar’s side dismissed the allegations as “baseless and untenable,” stating that Dhurandhar is an original concept developed and registered by Dhar with the Screenwriters Association in September 2023. They also claimed that Santosh registered his script later, in November 2023.

No official response has been issued by the producers so far.
