Chennai, Apr 4: Superstar Rajinikanth has shared a major update on his much-anticipated film Jailer 2, confirming that the project is in its final stages of completion.
Speaking to reporters at the airport on Saturday, the actor said the film, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is currently in its finishing phase. He added that the official release date will be announced soon by the production house Sun Pictures.
When asked about the upcoming elections, Rajinikanth chose not to comment and responded with a smile. However, he did confirm that his much-talked-about project with Kamal Haasan is expected to begin production in August.

‘Jailer 2’ has generated massive buzz among fans, largely due to the phenomenal success of its predecessor Jailer, which turned out to be a blockbuster, reportedly earning around Rs 650 crore worldwide. The film also recorded a strong opening, with its overseas distributor Ayngaran International noting a first-day collection of ?33 crore—Rajinikanth’s highest ever.
Industry sources suggest that the sequel has been crafted along similar lines, promising a mix of high-octane action and entertainment. Production began in Chennai, with filming officially commencing last year.
The film also drew attention after Rajinikanth celebrated his 75th birthday on set during the shoot. A teaser released earlier by Sun Pictures further heightened expectations, blending humour with action.
Actress Ramya Krishnan, who reprises her role as Vijaya Pandian, had shared her excitement from the sets, marking a nostalgic connection to her earlier collaboration with Rajinikanth in Padayappa. Actress Mirnaa is also expected to play a significant role in the sequel.
The film features notable appearances by Mohanlal and Vijay Sethupathi, adding to its star power. Music for the film is once again composed by Anirudh Ravichander, whose work was a major highlight of the first installment.
