Udupi, Jul 4: Endemic diseases are increasing amongst children of coastal region due to erratic weather that prevails since a month.

High fever, dengue, pneumonia, cough, cold and foot-mouth disease are reported in children of both rural and city areas.

In the beginning stage, hands and legs start aching. Later it turns into cough, cold, fever and phlegm. Heavy rains are adding up to the woes of children.

Due to this endemic, Covid scare is also increasing. The Health department has given instructions to doctor to advise Covid test if the children are brought with symptoms of cold, fever etc.

So far students, who had symptoms like flu got cured within three or four days of taking medicine. However, when they report back to school, the incidents of others catching fever are also increasing. The Health department has asked children to take more care in this regard.

Medical officers are of the opinion that if face mask is made mandatory to school going children it is possible to prevent the infections from spreading. Though district administration has made it mandatory to wear face mask, it is not being followed by people.
